Texas lawmakers recommend impeaching AG Ken Paxton By Acacia Coronado and Jake Bleiberg | Associated PressAUSTIN, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton teetered on the brink of impeachment Thursday after years of scandal, criminal charges and corruption accusations that the state’s Republican majority had largely met with silence until now.In an unanimous decision, a Republican-led House investigative committee that spent months quietly looking into Paxton recommended impeaching the state’s top lawyer. The House could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday. If it impeaches Paxton, he would be forced to leave office immediately. The move sets set up what could be a remarkably sudden downfall for one of the GOP’s most prominent legal combatants, who in 2020 asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Only two officials in Texas’ nearly 200-year history have been impeached.Paxton has been under FBI investigation for years over accusations that he used his office to help a donor a...

On Wednesday, Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo announced a tentative agreement with the club, however it must still be approved by state legislators. The A’s have come to agreements on multiple potential sites for a new stadium in the past month, first on a 49-acre parcel north of the Raiders’ new home and, this week, one on the strip, on the Tropicana Las Vegas property. It is Lee and the progressives who are the very real and sinister threat to our democracy, who want to silence any opposition and put more power into the hands of the federal autocrats.Lee is unfit for any political position, and it would be a great tra...

Report: Trump had Mar-a-Lago staff move boxes before DOJ visit By Kaanita Iyer | CNNTwo employees of Donald Trump moved boxes of papers at Mar-a-Lago a day before the Justice Department visited the former president’s residence to collect classified documents , The Washington Post reported Thursday. The Post, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that investigators view the timing – just before FBI agents and a prosecutor visited the Florida resort to recover the documents sought as part of a subpoena – as a potential sign of obstruction.Investigators have evidence, the newspaper reported, that the former president kept classified documents in a visible place in his office and had shown them to others. He also allegedly conducted “a ‘dress rehearsal’ for moving sensitive papers” along with his team before they were subpoenaed in May 2022, according to the report.CNN previously reported that following the May 2022 subpoena – which former president wanted to fight – federal prosecutors had a June meeting at Mar-a-Lago during which they w...

Contra Costa supervisors fund hiring more attorneys to tackle Antioch police scandal Contra Costa County supervisors have approved a $5.515 billion budget for fiscal year 2023-24, including more money for the district attorney’s and public defender’s offices to handle cases related to the Antioch police scandal.“That’s a big deal — $2.2 million (a) year to review cases that may have been affected by racial bias,” board chair John Gioia said on Wednesday. “We recommended adding these 10 new attorney positions at the budget hearing in April, based on needs expressed by (public defender’s and DA’s offices). They are on top of the other budgeted positions.”Each office will get money for five new attorneys. Those new hires — who represent the beginning of the scandal’s impact on Contra Costa County taxpayers — will work to sort out...

Blue Jays’ players call team meeting after another loss ST. PETERSBURG, Fla, (AP) — Their latest loss prompted Toronto players to call a postgame meeting in response to a 2-9 stretch Blue Jays manager John Schneider described as being “punched right in the face.”“We have to get better,” Schneider said after Thursday’s 6-3 defeat to the Tampa Bay Rays. “When it comes down to us as a staff, the expectations are put right in front of you. There is an urgency that needs to be had in order to meet those expectations. Wins and losses out the window. the last 10 days haven’t been great, and I think that the urgency in which those expectations are trying to be achieved is not right there.”“Yes, that’s on me and the players … Ultimately on me.” Schneider added. “When the players are recognizing that, and when the players are calling attention to that, it’s going to hold a lot more weight than anyone of the staff members trying to get mad or get in their face,”Zach Eflin became major leagues’ third seven-game winner in the victory over strug...
