(NEXSTAR) — If you’re reading this, you (hopefully) got a little extra sleep last night. Or maybe, you had a rude awakening, waking up an hour earlier than you expected. It’s all thanks to daylight saving time. At 2 a.m. Sunday, our phones, laptops, TVs, smartwatches, and any other clock connected to the Internet switched back to 1 a.m. as daylight saving time ended. But, for residents in two states, it’s just another Sunday morning. Hawaii and most of Arizona stay in one time zone year-round, meaning they don’t switch their clocks in March and November like the rest of us. Since 1968, Arizona has observed Mountain Standard Time year-round, with the exception of the Navajo Nation. For Arizona, the decision was based largely on the amount of sun the state already gets. Have you been tipping wrong at restaurants? What experts advise If you’ve ever been to Arizona, it’s easy to understand why they prefer the nighttime hours to come a little sooner in th...Does your water have fluoride? Brushy Creek MUD is among communities not adding fluoride to its water. According to the Fluoride Action Network since 2010, over 240 communities have rejected fluoridation across North America. (KXAN Photo/Ed Zavala)"It kind of makes us all stand on edge because we know the benefit it provides and the protection it provides," said Dr. Tyrone Rodriguez, a pediatric dentist in San Antonio and TDA spokesperson. In a letter sent to Brushy Creek MUD, the association, which has more than 9,000 members, wrote of the benefits of fluoridation including, "every $1 invested in water fluoridation yields $38 savings in dental treatment costs," TDA added, "water fluoridation benefits everyone, especially those without access to regular dental care."S...6 people injured in overnight shooting, Denver police say

The California coastline is a geologically sculpted masterpiece jagging and jutting for 1,100 head-turning miles. It starts with the Tortilla Wall poking into the sea at the U.S.-Mexico border and angles northwest to what some describe as California’s loneliest beach – a wild stretch of yellow grassy dunes, hard sand and chunks of driftwood at Pelican State Beach this side of Oregon.Don’t bother trying to define this heterogeneous seaboard through a single stretch of shore. It has been carved into disparate sections that speak to California’s richness. But the Bay Area is as good as any place to launch an exploration of the landscape and wildlife. The 100-mile strand from Santa Cruz to Point Reyes National Seashore has towering, forested mountains, plunging brittle bluffs and steep, chaparral-covered canyons brimming with wildlife. It has rickety piers, historic lighthouses and a marine sanctuary filled with elephant seals, sea lions and predatory white sharks.Atmospheric moisture cr...Men’s basketball: Saint Mary’s Gaels picked to unseat Gonzaga atop WCC, but have sights set on big picture

Being picked over perennial favorite Gonzaga to win the West Coast Conference this season doesn’t elicit much reaction from the Saint Mary’s basketball team.“Sure, it’s cool,” senior forward Alex Ducas said. “But getting picked to win doesn’t guarantee you any wins. We really try to keep the outside noise to the outside.”Coach Randy Bennett, who passed 500 career victories with the Gaels last season, wasn’t surprised the league’s coaches gave his team the nod. Saint Mary’s returns three all-WCC players and Gonzaga lost four starters. What’s more meaningful to him is the experience his players have accumulated after reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament two years in a row for the first time in a decade.“They’ve seen what it looks like to play in the NCAA tournament two years in a row, win a game,” Bennett said. “All that stuff, I can’t explain how valuable that is for a coach. These guys have done what it takes and seen what it looks like when you get there.“They’re pretty ...Los Gatos High teacher partners with Stanford in virtual reality study
